Our Boys Football Team finished 3rd in the Amber Valley School Sports Partnership (AVSSP) Boys Football Competition, narrowly missing out on the final on penalties!

The competition was held at Eyes Meadow in Duffield and had 8 Large and Medium schools competing. It was fantastic to see so many Boys participating in the event and out of 14 teams participating 3 of them belonged to Mundy Juniors, more than any school. Mundy B and Mundy C featured a mixture of boys that had experienced football competitions and matches before as well as several lads who were getting their first taste of competitive football and in some cases their first opportunity to represent Mundy Junior School in a Sporting Competition. Mundy A contained Boys who were experienced both in football and in representing the school.

The teams were split into 4 groups and played each team in their group in the first stage of the competition. The winners of each group then progressed to the Semi-Finals. Mundy A won their group with an impressive record of 3 wins and 1 defeat, scoring 10 goals and conceding just 1. What most impressive was the passing football we played, particularly from Harry, Zach and Anderson. Mundy B and Mundy C performed very well against mainly other school’s A teams and gained a lot of experience in their matches.

Mundy A played a very talented Riddings side in the Semi-Final. Both sides had chances to in the game and it was quite a well matched contest but neither could make the break through and finished 0-0, ending in the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Penalties is a cruel way to end any football match at any age group or level and as we told the lads is a lottery. We had won 2 penalty shoot-outs in the Girls Football Competition the previous day and this time lady luck was against us and Riddings progressed to the Final, which they won. Congratulations to them.

All 3 of our teams and all 28 of our children that took part represented the school incredibly well and have all done Mundy Junior School proud. Most importantly the Boys all enjoyed the competition and have gained great experiences at the same time. Well done to all the schools and children that took part and a big thank you to all at AVSSP for another fantastic Sporting Event.
