Our Mundy Junior School Swimming Gala Team competed in one of the 3 recent AVSSP Swimming Gala’s and finished as Runners-Up!

We took a team of 12 children to the gala, 6 boys and 6 girls (3 of each from Years 5 & 6) with each of them competing in either Front Crawl, Breast Stroke or Back Stroke as well as a Dual Relay, Boys and Girls Relays and a Team Relay.

The competition was held at Belper Leisure Centre and was organised by the Amber Valley School Sport Partnership (AVSSP).

5 Schools competed at the Gala we attended, with 5 points awarded for finishing 1st, 4 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 2 for 4th and 1 for 5th in each of the races.

Our Team finished as Runners-Up our Gala just 2 points behind 1st place meaning that we finished as one of the best Swimming Gala teams in Amber Valley in 18-19 along with the Winners and Runners-Up from the other 2 Amber Valley Swimming Galas.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the fact that our children weren’t event supposed to be in school that day as it was an INSET Day due to our Horticultural Show taking place the Saturday before. We are so grateful and blown away by the dedication of the children that were willing to compete for their school on their day off.

All 12 of our children that took part represented the school incredibly well and have all done Mundy Junior School proud. Most importantly the children enjoyed the competition and have gained great experiences at the same time, they should all be proud of themselves.

A big thank you to all the parents that came to support the children and school.

Well done to all the schools and children that took part and a big thank you to all at AVSSP for another fantastic Sporting Event.
