To celebrate the fantastic attendance of our children, we will be visiting the Splash Pad tomorrow, Tuesday 21st July. This activity is voluntary, and any child who would prefer to remain at school may do so.

YEAR 5 AND 6 PSHE, WATER AND RAIL SAFETY SESSIONS

As part of our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) curriculum, we aim to equip children with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe both in and outside of school.

In addition to our published PSHE curriculum, we will shortly be covering rail safety and water safety with our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils. These sessions are age-appropriate and designed to help children understand potential risks and how to make safe, responsible choices in real-life situations.

The topics we will explore include:

  • Staying safe near railway lines, stations and level crossings
  • Understanding the dangers of trespassing on railway property
  • Recognising water hazards in different environments (e.g. rivers, lakes, canals and the seaside)
  • What to do in an emergency and how to seek help safely

These sessions are delivered in a sensitive and informative manner, with a focus on empowering children to make safe decisions.

If you have any questions or would like further information about the content being covered, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,
Mundy Junior School

SCIENCE CURRICULUM DAY

Dear Parents/Carers,

As part of our curriculum, we have curriculum days within school. I am sure you have already heard all about the wonderfully successful curriculum days we have had during this academic year so far including – Wider thinking/Enrichment, PSHE/Computing and RE. Within Summer term two we have our upcoming Science Curriculum Day.

Alongside a range of science-based activities carried out by Mundy staff we have managed to arrange for an outside company to come in and deliver some exciting science experiments such as:

  • Grab the Orange Challenge
  • Explore air pressure and aerodynamics with Bernoulli's Windbags
  • Inertia Tablecloth Trick
  • Human Electrical Circuit
  • Controlling a hovering ping-pong ball.

Each session includes live demonstrations, practical experiments, and hands-on challenges where students directly manipulate materials and test scientific ideas. These are designed to encourage pupils to predict, test ideas and explore how forces, energy, air pressure and electricity shape the world around them — leaving every child inspired to keep questioning and exploring long after the day ends.

To enable us to provide this opportunity for the children it has incurred a cost. Our PTA has kindly agreed to pay for some of this. We would really appreciate a voluntary contribution towards the final cost of £2.50.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs White.

ANNUAL SPONSORED WALK - SPONSORSHIP FORM

The Annual Mundy CE Junior School Sponsored Walk 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our Sponsored Walk

It’s that time of year again the P.T.A have organised another sponsored walk, to raise money for our wonderful school.

Staff will be taking the whole school to Shipley Park to complete the sponsored walk on Friday 22nd  May.

The Year 3/4 children will be completing a morning walk, while the Year 5/6 children will be completing a longer walk.

The event –weather permitting- is to be held within school time. The children will be leaving school at 9.30am.

As we will be out of school for most of the day, children will need to bring along a packed lunch - children who have free school dinners will have one provided for them- a drink, a sun hat, sun cream, inhaler or any other medication if required and a waterproof coat depending on the weather are advised. We ask that the children wear a Mundy C of E Junior top/fleece/jumper and suitable footwear.

You will find a sponsorship form attached – every penny helps. If you do need more forms, they are available from the school office.

So, fingers crossed for a glorious day and a fun-filled walk.

Many thanks from

The Mundy Junior School P.T.A.

BIKEABILITY FOR YEAR 4

Y4 BIKEABILITY TRAINING WEDNESDAY 22ND APRIL

We would like you to know that it is YEAR 4 Bikeabilty training on Wednesday 22nd April.  To participate your child must have a roadworthy Bicycle, helmet and understand that your child must adhere to the behaviour expectations of both the school and provider, in order to keep your child safe; unfortunately they will be unable to complete the course if the provider deems their behaviour a risk to themselves and other riders. Your child can bring their bike on the morning for the course where it can be stored in the courtyard. We have attached the equipment, clothing and bicycle check list for your information. If you would like your child to participate, then please fill in the online booking form Bikeability Link

Just a note about some changes within school

We wanted to make you aware of some changes that will take place in school.  Mrs Bradley sadly will be out of school for the next few months as she takes some much needed time following recent surgery to recover, we all wish her well and look forward to her smiling face when she is ready to return.

We are pleased to announce that Miss Catton is expecting her first child and will (still be with us in school for many months yet) be stepping away from the classroom and focusing on her role as SENCO and transition support until 'Mini-Catton' arrives.  Miss Catton will also help support our ever popular Nurture sessions until Mrs Bradley's return.

What this does mean for both Ash and Beech class is a slight  change for the final terms - Mrs Eaton will now solely teach in Ash class Monday to Friday and take on full responsibility for this class, joining Beech class on Monday and Tuesdays will be Mr Channing, who some of you have already met and Mrs Christie will continue to teach in Beech for the remainder of the week.

If you do have any questions about the changes - please do not hesitate to contact us.

A Heads up about World Book Day! … Be Prepared!

Thursday 5th March is World Book Day - we appreciate that this is a fun and exciting day for the children, but we are also mindful that this day may not quite have that same effect on you as parents and carers! To be as prepared as possible we thought we would mention it now; we ask that the children come to school on this day ready to share and talk about their favourite book(s).  If your child wishes to come to school on this day dressed as a character from any book then they are indeed most welcome to do so, alternatively they can dress in bright colours or if they chose to do so come in their uniform, there is no requirement to dress up unless they wish to do so, just to celebrate the joy of reading    A Heads Up – Mrs Trunchbull may be Headteacher that day as Miss Adair is having another day off!!! ☹  Look out all!

PANTO CINEMA FRIDAY 19TH DECEMBER

What a fantastically busy week it has been and we hope the children have really enjoyed it so far (we are looking forward to the year 5/6 party this afternoon - ending at 4.30pm). It is the 'Cinema Panto' tomorrow and we are so pleased to have received your applications to attend, and thank you to everyone who has paid the £2 contribution to date. If you have not already done so, please can you ensure payment and applications are made today. Contributions to school activities ensures that we are able to hold fun events for the children going forward.

Urgent Safeguarding Notice

We have been made aware that several titles in the ‘According to Humphrey’ and ‘Spy Dog’ series may contain a weblink at the back of the book that no longer directs people to information about the books. Instead, the link has been compromised and now may lead to inappropriate and unsafe material that should not be accessed by children at any age.  We wish to share this with you as you may have these books at home, we have made the necessary arrangements in school to safeguard our children.  Please be reassured that the appropriate agencies have been advised including the Professional Online Safety Helpline. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us in school.

Just a reminder it is the Childrens Christmas Parties this week:

If you would like to donate any Treat Tuck please feel free to pop it into the office tomorrow morning. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause.

Reindeer Dash

Our children thoroughly enjoyed the Mundy CE Junior School  'Reindeer Dash' on Tuesday 9th December. This fun seasonal event was held to raise funds for the Treetops Hospice. We had the traditional 'dash' following Santa around our school playground, but we also had a 'Tinsel Olympics' throughout the morning, with snowball golf, a snowman relay, Christmas yoga and many more exciting events!

'Thank you' to everyone who has already sent back their sponsorship forms (& money), could we please ask if any remaining monies are sent in before the Christmas holidays.

More photographs to follow...

DANGEROUS AND ILLEGAL PARKING

Unfortunately, we have received a number of complaints that there is illegal parking near the school at drop-off and pick-up times, one particular place is in and around the junction to Stainsby Avenue making it dangerous for pedestrians to cross. We have also received reports that our neighbours’ drives are regularly being blocked by cars – even when waiting for only a short time we cannot allow this to take place, or people are parking opposite the zigzags – please show consideration when you park (even if it is only for a few minutes…). If this continues to put others at risk, we will have no alternative than to report poor and illegal parking to the police, in order to keep our children safe. Let us all try to ‘Be Safe’ in future. Please can we also ask if you can ensure the safety of your child by Crossing using the Allocated Crossing Patrol.

System renewal and possible outage

Just to let you know that we are renewing our Management Information System (the system that processes data and information) - during this period we may experience a loss of operation of the Weduc system. Please bear with us whilst this takes place. To ensure you keep up to date, you should have received the latest dates for your diary which covers the run up to Christmas. If you could consult our website: Home | Mundy CofE Junior School we will post any extra information, if necessary. If you need to message the school please could we ask that you either email (info@mundy.derbyshire.sch.uk) or telephone the office (01773 713427). We will let you know as soon as the system has completed its migration.

Children in Need

Tomorrow is Children in Need Day.   We will be selling ‘Treat Tuck’ at breaktime to help raise as many funds as possible for Children in Need. So sending your child in with a few extra pennies would be lovely (treats 50p and non uniform £1)

Donations of cake, biscuits, sweets etc for the ‘Treat Tuck’ would be gratefully received - please can you send these in with your child in the morning.

If your child wishes to come in non-uniform, we ask for a  £1 donation to this worth cause.

They could take inspiration from Pudsey and go for yellow and spotty outfits or choose to dress up in ‘Superhero Style’… Whatever they choose, wear something that will make their whole class smile! Thank you in advance for your support. For more information about Children in Need have a look at their website: We're there for you- BBC Children in Need
