Below are our topic subjects for 2025 - 2026

This half-term our during Humanities we will be learning about: Through the Ages!

Through the Ages: From the Stone Age to the Iron Age

In our exciting history topic, Through the Ages, students explore life in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. This journey through time begins over 2 million years ago with early humans in the Stone Age. Pupils learn how people survived using basic tools, hunted animals, and lived in caves or simple shelters. They explore how communities slowly developed farming, built homes, and began to settle in one place during the Neolithic period.

Next, we move into the Bronze Age, where children discover how metalworking changed daily life. They learn about the use of bronze tools and weapons, and how people built stone monuments like Stonehenge. Pupils investigate how trade and travel expanded during this time.

Finally, we reach the Iron Age, where iron tools helped farmers grow more food and tribes built impressive hillforts for protection. Children explore how Iron Age people lived, dressed, and defended their homes.

Throughout the topic, pupils use historical evidence, artefacts, and hands-on activities to understand how life evolved over thousands of years. It’s a fascinating way to connect the past with the present and develop a deep appreciation for human history and innovation.

In Science this half-term we will be learning all about: Light

Science Topic: Light (Year 3/4)

In Year 3/4, our science topic Light helps children explore how light allows us to see and how it behaves in the world around us. Pupils investigate sources of light, learning to identify which objects give off light and which reflect it. They discover that darkness is the absence of light and carry out practical experiments to explore how shadows are formed and how their size can change.

Children also learn about the dangers of looking directly at the sun and how to protect their eyes. Through fun, hands-on investigations, they explore how light travels in straight lines and how reflective surfaces help us see in the dark.

This engaging topic encourages curiosity and scientific thinking, helping pupils ask questions, make predictions, and record their findings. By the end of the unit, children have a clearer understanding of how light impacts our everyday lives.

Remember to regularly visit our school library, and enjoy the wide variety of books it has on offer.

Pick a reading book to read in school and at home.

Our Class reader for this half term is: Super Sleuth by David Walliams.

When the world’s greatest detective is murdered on board a luxury transatlantic cruise liner in the 1920s, amateur sleuth Dilly and her dog assistant Watson, try to unravel the mystery. With thousands of nautical miles of ocean surrounding them as they cruise from New York to London, it’s the perfect place for a murder… OR TWO!
