Below are our topic subjects for 2025 - 2026

This half-term our during Humanities we will be learning about: Discovering Dragons!

This term, our class will be travelling through time as we explore the fascinating world of Ancient and Modern China. We will learn about how Chinese civilisation began, how people lived long ago, and how China has grown and changed into the country it is today. Through stories, artefacts, images, and discussion, children will discover important traditions, inventions, and ideas that have shaped Chinese culture across thousands of years.

A special focus of our learning will be Chinese myths and legends. We will read and retell traditional stories, explore the meanings behind mythical creatures, and think about why these stories were important to people in the past. Our topic will allow us to create our own dragons and place them in their very own myth. Children will also have the opportunity with Art lessons to draw dragons using different media, including pencil and pastels.

We are looking forward to a term full of curiosity, creativity, and discovery as we uncover the wonders of China together.

In Science this half-term we will be learning all about: Plants

This term in science, our Year 3/4 class will be learning all about plants and how they grow. Pupils will explore what plants need to stay healthy, including water, light, nutrients, and the right temperature. We will investigate the different parts of a plant, learning about the important jobs of roots, stems, leaves, and flowers.

Children will also study the life cycle of plants, from seed to mature plant, and observe how plants change over time. Through hands-on experiments, careful observation, and simple investigations, pupils will develop their scientific enquiry skills by asking questions, making predictions, and recording results.

Where possible, learning will be linked to real-life experiences such as growing plants in the classroom or exploring plants in the school grounds. This exciting topic will help children understand the importance of plants to people, animals, and the environment, while encouraging curiosity and respect for the natural world.

Our Class reader for this half term is: How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell

In this captivating tale by Cressida Cowell, set in the fictional Viking world of Berk, Hiccup is the son of

Stoick the Vast, the chief of the Hairy Hooligan tribe. Unlike his fellow Vikings, Hiccup is small and lacks the typical strength and courage expected of a warrior. As part of a rite of passage, young Vikings must capture and train a dragon, but Hiccup's journey takes an unexpected turn when he befriends a small, mischievous dragon named Toothless.
