Sports Leaders
Who are the Sports Leaders?
Our Mundy Junior Sports leaders are children from across year 5 and 6 who were selected from their application forms. At the end of the school year the children from year 4/5 are asked to complete an application form if they would be interested in being a sports leader in the next academic year. The sports leaders are chosen by Miss Knighton if they show great leadership qualities, enthusiasm for getting other children in to sports and have great ideas for new activities on the play ground.
What do Sports Leaders do?
The Sports leaders lead sporting activities during lunch time for around 20/40 minutes to enagage children in a range of different sports. They recieve multiple training sessions ran by AVSSP over the academic year to develop their understanding and knowledge of sports and living a health active lifestyle.
What are the benefits of being a Sports Leader?
The Sports leaders get given responsibilities and opportunities to develop their leadership skills. Through the sports leader role children then further develop skills such as organisation, communication, confidence and self-esteem alongside planning and reviewing their own activities. The sports leaders also work with partners so they have the chance to develop team work and social skills.
Currently we have 10 Sports Leaders and 2 Competition Leaders who have already engaged children across all years in fun and inivitive activities.
Reward scheme
The Sports Leaders can track their progress by using wall charts which they tick when they have completed 20/40 minutes. The children work towards their 10, 25, 50 and 100 hour certificates throughout the academic year.
